Ok, so I’ll admit that I only recently jumped onto the skin care obsession band wagon. Truth is, I used to never care that much about the condition of my skin, so long as I didn’t have any zits. (I had a real issue with that in my adolescence…) But having Devyn made me look at my mom and see her in a whole new light – How did she have my brother and I and run the household and work full time AND look the way she did? I realized I want to be as radiant at her age as she is. And then I had a “duh” moment… I finally understood why she would always preach to me about her skincare routine.
So in this new year, my resolution is the take better care of my skin. I started this routine at the end of last year, but it has been taking some time for me to get the right products for me down, and I haven’t been as consistent as I’ve wanted to be with it. But it is a new year! And discipline and I intend on becoming very close friends this year…
The moment I make the decision to not leave the house for the rest of the night, I start my evening routine with a double cleanse – basically the idea is the first cleanse takes off the majority of the make-up and grime build-up on your face and the second cleanse is primed to clean up the remaining dirt that has been pulled up by the first cleanse, purifying your skin.
It may sound odd to wash your face with oil but seriously… whoa. The make-up just melts off of your face. I’ve tried the DHC Cleansing Oil which came highly recommended and it was alright… but it smelled a lot like olive oil and felt kind of thick like it, too. L’Occitane’s Cleansing Oil feels much more delicate and smells way better. It is at a great price point and is just as effective with stripping away the day’s dirt.
I then use Clarin’s Cleansing Milk to gently remove the rest of the days impurities. My skin is also extremely sensitive, which is why this cleanser is perfect. Its lotion like consistency is the right kind of gentle on my skin.
Next, I use Shiseido’s Essence as a toner and boy does it give such a moisturizing boost. It’s called a “skin softener” and that rings 100% true. Within a minute of putting this product on my face, it already feels smoother, more supple, and hydrated without feeling heavy at all. It comes out of the bottle like a very thin serum but is not at all oily or sticky.
Last but not least, the staple of my routine: Fresh’s Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream With Super 7 Complex. A piece of advice that keeps replaying in my head is that it’s never to early to use anti-aging products and that it’s far better to be proactive in avoiding the symptoms before they can even think to show. I first introduced this moisturizer to my routine a few years ago and I haven’t been able to let go of it since. It’s rich but not too thick, and helps my skin literally looking and feeling fresher in the morning.
I’m obsessed with finding the latest, greatest thing that’ll continue to help my skin glow. If you have any suggestions on what I should think about adding to my routine, please share!
